Frequently Asked Questions
Everything about how My Food AI scans restaurant menus and ingredient labels, what diets and allergens it supports, and how it compares to other food-scanning apps.
What is My Food AI?
My Food AI is an iOS app that scans restaurant menus and packaged-food ingredient labels, showing which items fit your diet, allergies, and food preferences. Point your camera at a menu or label, and each item is analyzed and rated against your personal dietary profile. Android is planned.
How does My Food AI work?
You configure your dietary profile once (diets, allergens, ingredients to avoid, personal notes). When you photograph a menu or ingredient label, My Food AI analyzes each item against your profile and rates it, explaining any concerns in plain language. For example, it might flag that a salad dressing contains whey (milk protein) if you've marked dairy as an allergen.
Who is My Food AI for?
My Food AI is for anyone managing food allergies or dietary restrictions, and for people who want more clarity about what they eat. That includes people following diets like keto, vegan, paleo, halal, kosher, or low-FODMAP; people with allergies to gluten, dairy, nuts, soy, eggs, shellfish, or sesame; and people who want to avoid ultra-processed ingredients or specific additives. For severe or anaphylactic allergies, always confirm with restaurant staff and check the full ingredient label, since AI analysis is a helpful first pass, not a medical guarantee.
Does My Food AI work for my specific diet?
Yes. My Food AI is designed to adapt to any diet, not pick from a fixed list. Everyone eats differently, so instead of forcing you into a preset, you build your own profile with the diets and patterns you follow, the ingredients and allergens you avoid, and any custom rules that matter to you. Every analysis is run against that profile, which is as unique as you are.
Can My Food AI scan ingredient labels on packaged food?
Yes. Point your camera at any ingredient list on boxed food, sauces, snacks, or drinks, and My Food AI analyzes it. It flags allergens in your profile, highlights ultra-processed ingredients, and explains unfamiliar ingredients in plain English (for example, "casein = milk protein" or "maltodextrin = a highly processed starch").
Is My Food AI free?
My Food AI is free to download. A subscription unlocks unlimited scans and full access to analysis features. You can manage or cancel your subscription at any time from the App Store.
How is My Food AI different from Yuka?
Yuka rates packaged products by looking them up in a predefined database of barcoded items. My Food AI uses dynamic AI analysis, so it works on anything you photograph, including restaurant menus, handwritten specials, imported foods without a barcode, or packaged products not yet in any database. Ratings are personalized to your specific diet and allergens, not a generic health score. Full comparison.
Is My Food AI accurate? Can I rely on it for severe allergies?
My Food AI is designed to help you make informed choices, not to replace medical advice. AI analysis of menus and labels can miss cross-contamination, hidden ingredients, or recipe variations a restaurant makes in-kitchen. For severe or anaphylactic allergies, always confirm with restaurant staff and read the full ingredient label on packaged foods.
Is there an Android version of My Food AI?
Not yet. My Food AI is available on iOS (iPhone and iPad) today. An Android version is planned.
Does My Food AI work offline?
No. AI analysis is performed in the cloud, so an internet connection is required to scan menus and ingredient labels. Your saved scan history is viewable offline.
